As a British Cycling affiliated club we have the opportunity to apply for team entries into the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 event on Sunday 2 August. Individual entries to the event were massively oversubscribed so this is a great opportunity to gain entry. 400 teams of 4 will get in via this route and if the organisers receive more than 400 entries (I assume they will) then there will be a ballot.

Applications must be received by 5pm on Monday 23 March and while each club can apply for more than 1 team all entries for the club must come through a single contact. Please therefore note your interest below or by PM to myself by Sunday 22 March.

Teams must be composed of 4 males, 4 females, or 2 males and 2 females. All entrants must be British Cycling members at the time of the application and at the time of the event. Assuming we have 4 or more people keen to do this the team slots will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis for the first 4 applicants that meet the set team criteria, so if we have 3 males and 1 female we won't be able to put in an entry but if we have 3 males and 2 females then the first 2 males and both females will be the team.

If we can raise a team (or two) and are successful in the ballot the individual members then have to register and pay the entry fee of £58 by 17 April or the whole team will lose its place.

We can sort logistics once/if we get in!

Dave has done this the last couple of years and is doing it again this year and said it is a great day, and a great weekend, with crowds lining the route for the elite mens race later on the Sunday, and it would be superb to get an ICC team down there. I'm keen to give it a go.

Event info can be found at: Prudential Ride London 100.

RSVP

Alan

I would agree with Alan here this is the best sportive I have done there are thousands of people lining the route and a finish up the mall.
I luckily got in via the ballot but it would be fantastic to have an ICC team in it.

If there's a slow coach team being assembled then count me in!

Hi Donna

Fast or slow, doesn't matter! There will definitely be a cut-off time on the event though as the pro race follows the same route later in the day - I found this information online from last year's instructions:

SLOWER CYCLISTS AT THE BACK OF THE FIELD
At two points along the route, cyclists travelling slower than the eight-and-a-half-hour time limit (18.9kph/11.75mph average) will be directed along diversions, which will shorten the distance; this is because, based on the time you reach a certain point, you would not make it back to The Mall in central London along the full route before the last finish time of 17:00, without being withdrawn from the event at a cut-off point.

The only stipulations to go on the club's team entry are that you must be a member of both ICC and British Cycling when the application goes in on 23 March and also at the time of the event.

Let me know if you would like to be included.

Cheers

Alan

Ok, so that's myself, Ross, Fiona and possibly Donna (subject to joining the club).

The more the merrier - anyone interested please put your names down and we can enter the ballot multiple times if we get the right combinations of male and female riders. It's still first-come first-served though.

I'll double-check all those who put their names down that they are British Cycling members before we put the application(s) in on the 23rd.

Just bumping this back up as the deadline is this coming weekend.

There were a few more expressing interest last Sunday so hopefully we'll get enough bodies to try for two teams - no guarantees either would get in though.

If you're going to be out at the coaching on Sunday we can confirm then - if not, please post in this thread between now and then.

Just to confirm once more, to be eligible for this you must be both a member of the Club and a member of British Cycling.

Hi Ross, I think you just need to be a BC member so any type of membership will do. Here's a link to the BC website - first-time BC members that are members of a cycling club get a discounted membership when they join BC:

BC FIRST-TIME MEMBER DISCOUNT LINK.

Thanks guys, I have put in for 2 mixed teams and we'll hear if one or both gets in this time next week.

If we get any teams in, then the individual team members have to register and pay separately to secure the team's entry. At the moment no-one has been named on the entry but I have a list in the order people put their hands up - not all are on this thread as they volunteered while out on club rides.

Fingers crossed for next Monday. ThumpUp

Update from Ride London this morning.

They have received over 1,000 applications for 400 team places and will be conducting a ballot, the result of which should be sent to me by 5pm on Thursday.

Fingers still crossed!

I might not need it. I entered the Etape du Tour in July but the logistics looks to much as the start and finish village in the Alps has no accommodation!

The charity that I registered with wont offer a refund but did offer the Ride London. So I have no option but to take it. I wanted to do it anyway so its no big issue.

Just got an e-mail to say that we have been successful in the ballot for both mixed teams that we applied for. The next stage will be them sending me an entry link for each team on 13 April. After this each team member will have until 5pm on 6 May to enter and pay the £58 fee.

I'll be in touch with the relevant members shortly, and we'll need to discuss logistics.

In the meantime ... BigGrin Woot ThumpUp
