The club has traditionally put on an annual long ride (100+ miles) and this year's route will take us round the three firths (Beauly, Cromarty & Dornoch) starting and finishing in Inverness. The distance is approx 109 miles with total elevation of around 4800 feet.

A summary of the route is as follows - Inverness / Munlochy / Killin / Balblair / Cromarty / Fearn / Tain / Dornoch Bridge / Bonar Bridge / over the Struie to Alness / Dingwall / Beauly / Clachnaharry / Inverness.

The lunch stop will be at Platform 1864 at Tain Railway Station with morning and afternoon coffee stops at our usual venues of Coupers Creek (Cromarty) and the Highland Farm Cafe (Evanton).

The route has the added novelty of a crossing on the Nigg Ferry (£5.50). The ferry departs Cromarty every hour and half hour so realistically we should aim for the 1030 or 1100hour crossing (after coffee).

Meet at Fairways roundabout just off the Distributor Road at 0750hrs for a 0800hrs departure.

Please remember to bring some cash for refreshments and also post if you plan to come along so reservations can be made.

Thanks

Derek

I assume we may go out in the evening for a fluid and protein recovery session?

Sounds like a bit of a challenge 😀
As a newbie to the club (and relatively new to cycling in general) what sort of pace / time is envisgaged for this? Knowing this may give some thought / encouragement to take part I guess maybe not just to me.

Hi Ray

Difficult one to answer but I suspect a realistic average minimum speed of 15mph would be required which translates to a ride time of approx 7.5 hours. We also need to factor in time for three stops (and a ferry crossing) and ideally be back in Inverness for about 5-6pm...so it will be a full day on the bike.
