Does anyone know if the track from Aultgowrie up to the Orrin reservoir and then all the way over to Erchless is cycle-able on a gravel / cross bike? It would make an interesting loop but is a fair distance to go to discover it's unrideable.

My road bike is off the road for a week or so, so I am looking for good gravel routes preferably west of Inverness if anyone has suggestions.

Cheers

Hi Alistair - I've done the Orrin-Erchless loop a few times and its all a drivable 4x4 wide track - and tarmac up from aultgowrie to the dam. However, I've only done on a mtb - it would be doable on a gravel bike, just not so comfy!

Other gravel loops I've done recently - great glen way to drum and then Afric Kintail way to Corrimony and back on road through Struy - was a great loop :-)

Many thanks Jo. Think I will give the Orrin loop a go.

Wasn't aware of the Drum to Corrimony route so will give that a try too. My memory of the GGW from Abriachan down to Drum was that it was fairly rough in parts, especially on the steeper sections. Not sure if this is still correct?

Have Gravel / Cross bike and an MTB, so could use either, but as I would do a loop from my house, the road sections can be extra tedious on an MTB!

Orrin loop is much rougher than the GGW to Drum. But I’ll be intrigueD to see what you think of Orrin loop on gravel bike!
